Julie grew up in Bend, Oregon and has been traveling far from home and taking pictures ever since childhood. She's been across the world with her camera to places as far flung as Hong Kong, Brazil, Costa Rica, Europe, and Amerikan Samoa.
She was previously a staff photographer at The Oregon Voice and was a frequent contributor to the magazine. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Oregon and a Master’s Degree from the University of Arkansas. She has studied at the McKay Photography Academy, the Houston Center for Photography and completed a mentorship with Andee Tate of Crave Photography.
In September, 2018 Julie returned to school to study Film Production at Portland State University. In her first year at PSU she had the fortune of working on the feature film Pig, assisting and training with some of Portland's most accomplished filmmaking professionals. Since then, she's contributed to several local film projects in the camera department as both a unit stills photographer and assistant camera. She plans to continue to utilize her skills in photography and further her education in filmmaking, in order to continue working with professional film and photo production teams in the Portland area.
